reprojecting and retiling rasters

Hi,

I am new to GeoTrellis and wondering if it can help solve my problem.

I am trying to display raster map data on a 3d mesh model of the earth that is based on a Quadralateralized Spherified Cube (QSC). What I am after is a level of detail pyramid that maps easily onto my quad-tree based mesh. The data sets are, as you know quite large, and typically in WebMercator projection.

I know that GDALsupports the QSC projection and it looks like geotrellis may as well. The harder problem is that the tiles once re-projected will not align with my mesh boundaries so I will need to merge them together and manipulate them to make them fit.

Will GeoTrellis fit my use case?

If so, can you point me in the right direction?
