Geotrellis for other raster format

hi, I would like to know if I can use geotrellis for JPEG or other raster format..besides only using on GeoTiff formats.

This question was just asked on the geotrellis gitter. This is what Rob said:

GeoTrellis can’t do that natively, but there is work done to integrate it with GDAL here: https://github.com/geotrellis/geotrellis-gdal

That would allow you to read in whatever raster formats GDAL can. it’s a little behind on work though.

Thanks Ross. I've resolved this issue. I'm able to read other raster formats now (but I had to change the build.sbt of geotrellis-gdal) . I'm trying to learn the map algebra, if you know any good tutorials on that please LMK.

I scanned this video and did not actually follow along the tutorial, but it looks like a good introduction to many of the fundamentals of map algebra using open source QGIS. Mastery of these concepts at a smaller scale will certainly be of benefit to working at a larger scale.
