Hi, I'm John McCarty - software engineer and GIS enthusiast... been
working with RoR for about a year (mostly just personal projects and
self educating - no real business stuff yet), PostGIS off and on for a
little more than a year.
I'm very interested in getting GIS apps working inside RoR - been
looking at OpenLayers today, wold love to see a Ruby back end for
that!

cheers,
john

There is a Rails plugin - YM4R_mapstraction - that provides for easily
building Mapstraction maps in Rails apps. And Mapstraction now
supports OpenLayers.

That said, a better question (having used this plugin in a number of
projects) what's the benefit of a Ruby wrapper to javascript? It ends
up being a little annoying in maintaining/writing to foreign language
wrapper.
