Amplification (in relation to audio) : increasing the voltage and
current output of a source to high enough level required by the
speakers. "Loudness" is not really a concern, it's about providing
enough voltage swing to the speakers/headphones so that they respond
to all frequencies properly and enough current so that it can be
sustained.
