Thank you to those who made it out to the meeting tonight. The new Executive Board is very excited about the upcoming year!
As I said during the meeting, I received an email about a really cool event occurring on campus this coming Monday. I will try to be there and I would recommend that you try to attend to! See below for description:
The Moral Dilemmas of Partisanship: Ethical Obligations and Limitations for Political Partisans.
Gaston Hall - 7:15pm, April 28th.
As our politics grow more polarized, what are the moral obligations and ethical limitations of partisanship? Join the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life in Gaston Hall at Georgetown for a unique event that will feature a pro-life Democrat, a "No Labels" Republican, President Clinton's former press secretary, and a former RNC chairman who will dialogue on this question and the demands of party and conscience. You will also hear personal and candid reflections from two senior members of Congress from different sides of the aisle, as well as from a bishop who will reflect on how Catholic social teaching and Pope Francis' leadership impact this topic.
Here is our event page and you can RSVP here for the event.
Our speakers include:
- Michael McCurry, former press secretary to President Clinton, Democratic consultant and commentator, professor of public theology at Wesley Theological Seminary,
- Michael Steele, former RNC chair, Maryland lieutenant governor, and Senate candidate,
- Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), representative of Ohio's ninth congressional district,
- Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC), representative of North Carolina's third congressional district,
- Bishop Robert McElroy, auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of San Francisco
- Mark McKinnon, Republican political consultant and commentator, co-founder of No Labels,
- Kathy Dahlkemper, recently-elected Erie County executive and former pro-life Democratic member of Congress, and
- John Carr, director of the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life.
Have a great weekend!
