On June 11 Tommy Gonzalez (District 7) will be proposing that Georgetown back out the Lone Star Rail District citing citizen disinterest in public transit according to his reading of the City Survey.
Unfortunately I will not be able to attend this meeting as I will be traveling, but I hope some of you can. Please let me know if you can.
Some facts to keep in mind:
1 "Add public transportation" is the 4th most popular choice in the citizen survey for things Georgetown could do to improve life here. Number 1 is Improve Traffic Situation.
2. Mr Gonzalez presents our relationship with Lone Star Rail as a "contract." It is not a contract. Our city is a voting member of a public/private statewide partnership to bring commuter rail to central Texas.
3. Being one of the first stations on this new line will make Georgetown a destination, bringing economic development to our city.
Let our city council know that we support alternative transportation options for our town.
