Contract Type: Contract with Potential to Convert

About the Role:
We are seeking a Backend API Developer to join the Wealth Management Technology division of a major financial client. This position focuses on Node.js and TypeScript API development, with strong SQL experience and exposure to Java (approx. 30%). It is not a full-stack or front-end role. Knowledge of messaging tools like Kafka is a plus.
About the Team:
The role is part of the ET Trading Technology team within the Wealth Management Technology group. The team is responsible for building and supporting scalable APIs used by client-facing applications for high-profile customers. You’ll work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment solving complex backend problems in financial technology.
Key Responsibilities:
· Design, develop, and maintain backend APIs using Node.js and TypeScript
· Work with SQL databases and integrate with services via messaging (Kafka/ActiveMQ is a plus)
· Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and contribute to system architecture discussions
· Ensure performance, scalability, security, and usability are considered in all builds
· Participate in CI/CD processes and code management using Git/Bitbucket
· Troubleshoot and resolve issues in development and production environments
Required Skills & Experience:
· 7–15 years of backend development experience, including architecture and system design
· Expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, Express.js, JavaScript
· Strong SQL experience; familiarity with NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.) is a plus
· Some experience in Java (Spring Boot) – approx. 30% of the role
· Understanding of cloud platforms: AWS or Azure
· Experience with containerization and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes
· Familiar with Git, Bitbucket, and modern SDLC practices
· Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
· Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or related field
Nice to Have:
· Kafka, ActiveMQ or other messaging systems
· Financial services / trading application background
