KML in Google Earth and Google Maps

Hi all,

 

My first post to this list ! I’m playing with GeoREST since few weeks now and just love it !

 

I noticed some difference in behavior on loading the KML in Google Maps or Google Earth. The content of the balloon seems to be displayer correctly in Google Earth while in Google Maps I got some  scritping code remaining (see attached screenshots). Do you have an idea where it can come from ? I saw that this content comes from kml_static/schema_property_v1.kml but don’t know why this is not correctly interpreted in Google Maps.

Any Idea ?

Hi Pierre-Nicolas,

Great to hear you're getting into GeoREST!

Google Maps does not honour typed extended data, only simple fields.

You can see a (non-GeoREST) example of a KML file that uses this kind of extended data (including JavaScript for using in Google Earth) and gracefully degrades all the way down to description-only from the City of Nanaimo's public art inventory:

Or in Google maps (you'll have to click on the camera):
