I used my MS Surface camera and OfficeLens to create a pdf of some newsprint. I want to convert it to editable word text using Acrobat. It failed horribly. Maybe this was something I did or did not do. Can you help?

However, it is very likely that they would only accept files in .doc, whilst my article is written in .docx and tons of formulas are in native Word 2010 Formula format. Saving those formulas as images could work as a last resort, but I don't think the guys in the publishing office will be happy with that.

Many journals (such as PLOS: ) requires DOC files and MathType. Word does not provide any conversion solution. But I was able to convert the Word 2007/2010 DOCX file to DOC preserving all the equations by using LibreOffice 4.2.3.3.

Simply open the DOCX file in LibreOffice and then save as DOC. You can then reload it in LibreOffice, which can natively edit them. If you open them in Word, the equations show up as Microsoft Equation 3.0 objects.

You should try MathType. This is a plugin to word for writing equations. If you buy it or use the free trial you should be able to convert your Word equations to MathType which would be viewable in Word.

Able2Extract Professional comes with business-grade OCR technology that is capable of accurately converting even the poorest document scans. Furthermore, multi-language support is available for special characters in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Greek, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, and Swedish.

Batch PDF into Word conversion is an advanced feature that can be found in some online tools, but most of the time, users have to pay extra for this service or sign up and leave their personal information to get access to it.

Fortunately, most desktop PDF applications come with this advanced feature already built right in. The Batch Converter tool in Able2Extract Professional enables users to convert hundreds of PDFs into fully editable Microsoft Word files in a single step.

Batch conversion to CSV, open office, AutoCAD, and other Microsoft Office formats is also supported. Moreover, users can create and use unique conversion templates on recurring documents that are similarly formatted.

However, an advanced desktop PDF converter such as Able2Extract Professional allows users to select what PDF content they want to extract to MS Word: an entire document, a page range, a single page, or even specific paragraphs and lines of text.

Instead of wasting valuable time on fixing layout inconsistencies, you can use a business-grade PDF converter - Able2Extract Professional. It will ensure that the original document structure and formatting remain consistent after every conversion.

Like most people here, my resume/CV is in LaTeX, but there are always these annoying companies (or more often, recruiters) who will only look at resumes in Microsoft Word format. How can I translate my beautiful LaTeX document into .doc without making it look horrible?

I've had most consistent success with pandoc (as one of the other answers notes). I compared a couple of alternative routes, and its converter to Open Office seemed more reliable than its converter direct to Word. Thus convert with

In the cases I tried, that managed to preserve quite a lot of document structure, emphases, and footnotes. The documents in question used almost no maths, but converting that would be probably unreasonable.

Adobe Acrobat XI Pro provides "pdf -> word" feature that is capable of neatly and accurately convert the pdf file to word. It can successfully convert figures, tables, mathematical equations, and references from pdf to "word.docx". I converted my LaTeX file to pdf and then converted to word. Compared to other applications and tools, this is fantastically easy and accurate. Adobe provides 1 month free trial and you can do convert your file without limit. Download it from here

If you don't mind a third party user accessing your information (particularly something as sensitive as a CV), I have found converting a pdf to word to be an effective way of managing this. For example one free service is convertpdftoword. Although it makes the word document quite large, I've found that it usually preserves the formatting almost perfectly.

I have a Canon MG2220 All-in One printer scanner. When I do a scan using the installed software on the computer it seems I only have one option and that is a PDF document. I would like an editable Microsoft Word document but I ca seem to find a way to do this. I tried converting the PDF to a TIFF file but it seems that I need to have Microsoft Document Imaging to get the document to a WORD file. I do not have Microsoft Document Imaging installed on my computer in my Office 2007 and I do not have the option to install it.

We do have a step by step guide for how to extract text from a scan available for your printer using OCR! You can find it here: It will convert the text to a notepad document that you can then copy and paste into Microsoft Word if needed.

Starting today, I went to download a .pdf file to open automatically with Adobe Acrobat as I usually do. However, this time I got a pop-up from Microsoft Word stating, "Word will now convert your PDF to an editable Word document. This may take a while. The resulting Word document will be optimized to allow you to edit the text, so it might not look exactly like the original PDF, especially if the original file contained lots of graphics."

I went to Settings - General - Applications, went down Contents list to Portable Document Format (PDF), and tried the various settings under the Action column, to include "Save File," "Always Ask," "Use Acrobat Adobe 2020." None of these worked or made any difference. I open numerous .pdf files every day and I need to be able to just click on them in the website and have them open in my Adobe Acrobat program - as they have up until today. What do I have to do to fix this? I am using Version 102.0.1 (64-bit).

On your Settings page, Applications list, do you have ANY content types that are set to "Use Microsoft Word"? If so, try switching those to "Always ask" and see whether there is any change in the PDF opening behavior.

I do not believe it is a problem with Word. However, to make certain I did go over all my Word settings, and did not find any settings that would take over .pdf files and try to convert them to Word. If you know of something specific, please let me know.

I do believe it is something to do with the FF browser as it is sending the file to my computer incorrectly; even though the settings are set to, say, "Always Ask" I do not get a pop-up asking me how I want to save or open the file, it just automatically tries to open it in Word - and as I said, up until today it was working correctly. Just not sure what is going on. I do thank you for your idea, but did not solve the issue. Any ideas out there, anyone?

Oh, wow. Amazing! So, I went through the Applications list and found that the Microsoft Word Document was set to open with "Use Microsoft Word." So, I changed that to "Always Ask" and then went to upload and open a .pdf file from the website, and got a pop-up asking me what I wanted to do. So I set it for download to Adobe Acrobat default, and voila! Problem solved!

As a further note, for someone who might be trying this, when I went to download a Microsoft Word .docx file from the website it now opened as a .pdf file! So, I went back into Applications - Microsoft Word Document and changed the "Always Ask" action. Instead of changing it back to "Use Microsoft Word" I changed it to one of the other options, "Use Word (default)." Once I did that, my .docx files again downloaded to my Word program. And my .pdf files are now downloading to Adobe Acrobat. So everything works! Yay!

Firefox has a settings file named handlers.json which has the content types/actions you see on the Settings page AND various file extension (like .pdf and .docx) associated with those content types. Maybe PDF and DOCX somehow are crossed up in the file. If you decide to explore further, I'll describe how to view the file contents.

Yes, absolutely. That would be great! I figure since I had an issue here, it would behoove me to learn more about how FF works. If you could let me know how to view the file contents that would be excellent. Thanks!

I am using fne reader which is the number one software for converting PDF files into Microsoft word. I use onversion manually which regions are texts tables pictures and if the scanning is at least 300 DPI it is optimum.

I have a flow that works great converting a Word to a PDF - what I want to know is if it's possible to convert Word to PDF so that anyone can open the PDF form and fill it out online instead of having to print and write on it??

What you want to do isn't possible. But by using a different approach, it totally is. Instead of using a PDF or document at all, why not use Microsoft Forms (or any form engine) to collect the data and then generate the completed form in word with the results? That would be easy to do.
