I think I did things out of order and created a php script to
geolocate IPs (specifically of people filling out a form on my web
site) first, and THEN (just now) registered. I also created a command
line test script, that worked yesterday but now reports "You have been
blacklisted for spam. Please try again later."

Is there any fix, apology or other mechanism by which I can put myself
back in the good graces of geoPlugin?

Thanks!

Hi Tom,

Please see the acceptable use policy:
http://www.geoplugin.com/aup

There is a spam checker that will blacklist IPs hitting the server at
a rate that averages out to ~100K hits per day. So this means, you are
wanting to use the service for more than 100K lookups per day. This
spam filter is in place to prevent people unnecessarily spamming the
server slowing down things for the rest.

First thing is to make sure, for each IP lookup you aren't
unnecessarily making lookups - for example, some people are including
both the javascript and statistics scripts in their pages - this is
unnecessary as a call to the index.php page will include both - eg see http://www.geoplugin.com/webstatistics/tracking_code

Another thing to try is to cache your lookups, and use your own cache
before making calls to geoplugin. This can cut things by as much as 20%.

If all else fails, please submit a contact form and explain your
situation:
http://www.geoplugin.com/contact

Thanks
Andy
