Hi,

I have built some bespoke base maps in tilemill and then exported them to geoodk on a Samsung Tab4s. The maps work OK and the navigation and redraw facilities are great. This will definitely be a welcome addition to the field kit, so well done with this piece of software. However, there is slight hitch with the zoom capabilities. when I built the maps in tilemill I set the zooms to give the max zoom in. This appeared to work well on the desk top and I could zoom right in to the desired level. On the tablet this is not the case and I can only zoom in to a limited extent rather than to the full zoom, i.e. if I have a zoom range of 12-22 on the desk top in tilemill I do not get this level of zoom on the tablet.

Any ideas why this might be the case or is this a known limitation of this current version of GEOODK on android devices.

Regards,

Malc.

Hi yes, this is a know issues, in the application the build include the osmdroid lib which stops the zooming at level 19. This can easily be fix. I will include this in the next build. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Any idea when the new version is coming. We really need the functionality of the new ODKengine.

Thanks and regards.

The application uses osmdroid https://github.com/osmdroid/osmdroid for its mapping API, In side osmdroid there is a max zoom level that can be change, you will have to make your own build of osmdroid and geoodk that includes the new .jar in order to accomplish this. I have been working on the next version which will come out when we are done implementing, there is a setting that allows you to set the max zoom. I hope this helps

Jon,

I really need to be able to increase the zoom level on my version of GeoODK.  do you have a "BETA" that could be released or sent to me for testing........I am trying to do a proof of concept and this is a deal breaker for me.  Not that informed on doing my own version of an apk and adding the new osmdroid updates......

if you have a tutorial that would be great...........or the beta.............please.  I have my mbtiles working on my version just cant get down to the zoom level needed.

please help?

If you really need the apk, please email me privately, I can try to help.

But resolved the zoom level limitation by standing up TileServer just for GeoODK that are dedicated to the app. The issue really before was that the app linked to the OSM servers and they limit the XYZTileSouce zoom. I have set the max zoom of the new TileSource to 22. Will the satisfy the zoom level limitations? If not i can increase, just need to know if it is necessary.

I have also added a few other base map options and more coming,

The updates will be added during the September Release, but if your interested in checking it out you can find the changes on the devops branch of the Github account.

Hello

Sorry to disturb you directly.....
Thanks so much for this incredible software... I am now able to collect data from satellite images offline!!!!!
I have a big problem with this new version.....

I posted a message some days ago, but it is urgent..... :

I installed last week the new version of GeoODK collect....

A new problem seems to appear.....

I configured the server , my user name and password, and succeeded to download my form.

After data collection, i try to send it , but i have messages as

  • xxx(name of the form) - Error: Generic exception: no peer certificate.
  • xxx(name of the form) - Error: Invalid status code on Head request. If you have a web proxy, you may need to login to your network. (this one is more frequent)

I tried from several places to check if there was a proxy, but allways the same.

Can you please help....

Please increase the zoom level further.  I realise OSM has this limitation (and boy, what a limitation!!), but Google basemaps don't.  If you compare the maximum zoom on the GeoODK app with SW Maps app, GeoODK is still limiting the zoom level.  Google basemaps are good enough to assist in positioning features 1m apart, but so many apps are stuck in the OSM mindset of looking at the world at the maximum scale of a neighborhood block.
