All,

The agency I work for is seeking to hire a new GIS position. The details below are from the jobs posting.

Background:
USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) is seeking a GIS Intern to work with OFDA’s Geographic Information Unit (GIU). OFDA's mandate is to save lives, alleviate suffering, and reduce the economic impact of disasters. OFDA is the lead coordinator of U.S. Government responses to disasters in foreign countries. OFDA works to minimize the human costs of displacement, conflicts and natural disasters. The GIU team works in partnership with OFDA’s Information Support Unit and Technical Assistance teams to create maps which capture OFDA’s activities and impact. The successful GIU candidate will have good geographic knowledge, be creative, and be a team player who can work under tight deadlines and high performance conditions.

Requirements:

Expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), ESRI ArcGIS 10.0, cartographic design, graphic editing, database maintenance, and standard office applications. Extensive knowledge of geospatial data from a wide array of sources. Familiarity with Google Earth and Adobe Design Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop).  Experience with geospatial web APIs and creating mash-ups is preferred. Experience with PHP, Flex/Flash, Python scripts and Modelbuilder is desirable. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to work independently or in a team environment.

US Citizenship required; selected candidate must be able to qualify for a government sponsored security clearance.

The internship would be paid.
