ASPRS Potomac Region: GeoTech 2013 Conference agenda is posted, registration is open: http://www.asprspotomac.org/geotech2013/index.htmlDecember 9-10 at the National Academies Keck Center, Washington, DC
In an era of rapidly growing open source (OS) data and software, the opportunity for its integration with traditional geospatial data and processes is considerable. However, a fundamental issue that must be considered is data quality. For example, data uncertainty must be accurately quantified in order to propagate its effects in various geoprocesses, which ultimately impacts decision making. Addressing this issue can be greatly facilitated with development and adoption of community standards for data quality metrics, as well as processing algorithms to address uncertainty in open source and user-contributed data. Also, common visualization methods for conveying data quality concepts to different user communities are needed. The goals of this conference are to focus upon 1) assess and demonstrate the value and impact of OS to the geospatial community, 2) forecast OS evolution in terms of impact to business practices, and 3) propose new methods to assess OS quality to facilitate standardization and exploitation.
