Hi,
in the exported file giving the details of the countries (http://download.geonames.org/export/dump/countryInfo.txt), there is a field giving the neighbours. For instance, Ireland (IE) is the only neighbour of Great Britain (GB). Well, some could argue that, among others, France, Netherlands and Germany are also neighbours of GB. I guess that "neighbour" is understood here as "having a terrestrial boundary with"; hence, maritime boundaries are not taken into account.
You may think it is not that much an issue. But when trying to fix the country of a given POR (point of reference), such as a POR on Guernsey (http://www.geonames.org/6296593/alderney-airport.html), we are not allowed to do that because the corresponding countries are not considered neighbours... I have the same issue with many other island countries, including Papua New Guinea, Australia, etc.
So, my question is: is there a way to fix the country of a given POR, when the countries do not appear as neighbours in the country information file?
Thanks!
Kind regards
Denis

Hi Denis
For dependencies like Guernsey we can change the check to take this also
into consideration. For the Island states Papua New Guinea, Australia
and so on the easiest is to increase your userlevel, so that the check
will be skipped. I have done this and you should no longer have this
kind of issue when changing the country.
