Hi!

Is there a language code for Pinyin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinyin)?
If not, I guess the most reasonable is to put English (in alternate names).

Cheers

Denis

Hi Denis

I am not aware of an iso language code for it, so English is a
reasonable choice.

i'm not sure but based on this:

http://rishida.net/utils/subtags/index.php?find=pinyin&submit=Find

subtag is probably zh-Latn or bo-Latn, probably primary subtag, followed by the country tag.

pny "Pinyin
Comment. Registry comment: a Niger-Congo language spoken in Cameroon; not to be confused with the Pinyin romanization systems used for Chinese and Tibetan

Thanks for your answers.

Yes, I was thinking about the romanization of the Chinese language. For instance, as in http://www.geonames.org/7910162/jiuzhai-huanglong-airport.html
Chinese is of course not the sole language to have a romanisation (a.k.a., transliteration) scheme, since passports from any country must show Roman characters (along with the native language).
So, we could maybe add a '-Latn' subtag to the language code?

For instance, for many Ukrainian POR, the Ukrainian transliteration (uk-Latn) is not the same as the Russian one (ru-Latn).

Note that Wikipedia has got apparently the same issue. As far as I have seen, the language template (e.g., "{{lang-ISO|}}") does not contain references to romanization/transliteration, and some have found work-arounds, like in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kozelshchyna_Raion . But I have not digged that much in Wikipedia, and they may have a cleaner solution for that issue.
