Hi,

I was just browsing the geonames database dumps for the area I'm
interested in.

Can I expect the geonames-id to be constant in the future? I'd like to
use that ID as an foreign key from my own data to the geonames tables.

Hakan

Almost certainly, its used thoughout geonames site and elsewhere as an
ID, and so I think could be considered stable.

Thanks, I'm considering the ID as stable and have constructed my
application
with that assumption.

Another question though: I understand that geonames incorporates data
from,
among other sources, GNS (http://gnswww.nga.mil/geonames/GNS/
index.jsp).

Does anyone have experience with the stability of the GNS object ID's?

Hakan
