Changes in country names in French

Hello everyone;

My company (KDS - Travel and Expense tool) uses geonames for any geographical approach. up to now, we were relying on the translations present in the countries table which we follow up avery quarter.

I have noticed 2 changes in the Country csv that geonames supplies coincerning the french naming of these countries:

- United kingdom that was changed to R. U. from "Royaume Uni"

- United stzates that was changed to E. U. from "Etas Unis"

I would like to know how I can find out why those changes ocurred ?

I would also like to know if I can revert to the previous translations ?
