Some alt records have incorrect lang codes in the isolanguage field

Either  that, or the documentation saying that this is a 2 or 3 character field is incorrect. For instance the record:

1992589 3039163 zh-CN   圣胡利娅-德洛里亚  

Has the full lang spec instead of just zn. There seems to be a lot of these. Has the spec changed and the docs are out of date, or are these records incorrect?

You are right, the doc is out of date.
The languagecode may be followed by a hyphen and a countrcode or a
country variant:
zh-CN
zh-Hant
