Hello,

Here is a very general question

I saw that geonames includes wikipedia data.

But are there some links between geoNames 'features' and wikipedia or
DB Pedia

What i mean is, are there RDF data and links between geoNames and
DBPedia (linked data) ?

For instance, is there a way to know that http://sws.geonames.org/2658434/
('Switzerland') is the same ressource as switzerland in wikipedia/
dbpedia (maybe http://dbpedia.org/page/Switzerland)
are there some owl:sameAs or any other ways to connect them ?

Looking at geoNames about.rdf of Switzerland, i didn't find or didn't
know how to find that information

On DBPedia i saw some information about linked data

Thanks for any information
Fabian

Hi Fabian

There are links between GeoNames, Wikipedia and DBPedia. Look at our
favorite example "Embrun" :
http://sws.geonames.org/3020251/about.rdf
There is a sameAs link to
rdf:resource="http://dbpedia.org/resource/Embrun%2C_Hautes-Alpes"
and a some links to Wikipedia pages in a couple of languages.

We have generated these links automatically, with the lat/lng being one
factor. This automatic matching works for places but not for other
feature types. If you want you can help us add new links. A lot of links
could probably be derived from dbpedia.

If there is interest in helping manually we could add an entry field on
the edit interface and let users add links manually.

Hello Marc,

Thanks, that's exactly what i was looking for

We have some semantic web projects at the Informatic Institute of the
University of Applied Sciences, Western Switzerland. We do use
geoNames to handle locations. But no ressource yet to work on helping
you enriching geoNames data. That could come in the future though!

Here is a little website we are working on to promote the semantic
web : www.websemantique.ch

Thanks for your wonderful job
Fabian
