Hey all

I have just started using Geomodeller and wondered if you may be able
to answer a newbie query.

I have ste up a project and imported a DEM into a TopoMap section. I
am now trying to register a geology map of a part of the topo layer. I
have 3 registration points correctly positioned with the correct UTM
coordinates, but I keep getting a message that it cannot compute a
registration. Am I missing something here? Does the ratser map have to
have the same bounds as the TopoMap section? Any ideas?

Cheers
Ken

I know in the past that the raster had to have the same bounds as the dem section (haven't set up a project in the current version). To test if this is the problem just try to register the map to the bounds of your dem section and see if that works.

Cheers,
Chris.

Hi Ken,
I have noticed this bug with with relatively large image files ... Say,
some thousands of pixels x thousands of pixels in their x,y dimensions.
If this is the case, I have found that re-sampling the image back to a
dimension of about 1000 or 1500 pixels across is OK; Depending on the
detail in your image, this is generally still a satisfactory image to
work from, and the 'cannot compute' message does not come up.
I will report this as a bug.

Hi Ken,

Using most of the later versions (91/110), it is straightforward to
register an image that is within the bounds of your project box (I've
just tried it again to make sure). If you see the image correctly placed
in the project box before you hit the OK button, it should work.
Sometimes the program refuses to work with large images and certain
formats (try subsampling/ changing to .bmp's or .tifs/.gifs).

Also, be aware for some projects, depending on the size of the DEM grid
the project area is not always clipped to the exact co-ordinates
specified. So do not be alarmed if the corners of "golden box" are not
at the exact co-ordinates specified for the project. If this is the
case, don't try and stretch an image for the whole area to fit the box,
just use the correct co-ordinates in the image manager.

Good luck

See imageAlign.jpg in the images section for the new GUI
