The 3D geology of the Volta Basin in Ghana as created by Intrepid
Geophysics from various field mapping, and geophysical studies using
Geomodeller, is being showcased by Fugro RSA at the Indaba conference
in Capetown this week.

This "no-glasses" display uses 8 slightly seperate display
perspectives to enable your eyes to pick up a bi-focal
representation of the geology model, no matter where you are standing
relative to the screen.
This development is likely to prove quite popular in the coming year.

In the end, this use of 3D geology models on the new generation LCD
screens went "excently well"

In detail, the work to light and set up 8 movie cameras proved
difficult to easily pull off.
Also, the use IGES to convey the model to the 3d Studio software was
not too workable, given the
number of facets, surfaces etc. Plain old DXF for the triangles was
used.

I expect to see this type of technology take off this year at trade
shows, where the WOW factor needs to be
exerted.
Anyone interested in this for other Geology models?
