Hi there everyone, I have made a research on getting an "L" shaped cut-trough on a 3D model using Geomodeller 3D, the kind you cut 3/4 of the cubic model and can see in volume whats on any given sub-surface area, but it seems there is no such option, also, on the "clipping parameters" is there a way to get a full volume model instead of surfaces? this will surely help on visualize the geology modeled on the software.

By an L shape display, I presume that you mean a step rather than a straight cut through the model? You might be able to work around this by defining a section that has a step in it at depth, and plotting the model on the section. Not exactly what I think you want, though.

I'm not sure what you mean by a full volume model? Is this a discrete voxel model (i.e., composed of rectangular prism elements)? This can be done with the software.

Hello,
for matters of explanation , I´m sending two images on a geological model, the "ImageOriginal.jpg" shows a geological model created by the software, the "ImageClip.jpg" shows a cut through this same model, now, is there an option on the clipped imagefor showing the geological formations as a 3d model i.e. as in the original image, instead of just planes that shows the bottom (or top) of the formations? if so, would you kindly say how to, I havent find this on any tutorial or help information provided on the Geomodeller.

This will be very nice, if the software allows you to do so.

on the other hand, I figure that the L shaped option is not available on the software, or any 2 face vertical plane that cuts trough the entire model and shows how a slice on 2 different directions, very useful for intrusive bodies.

thank you for your time

Hello again Ivan.

Thanks for trying to explain what you are looking for. I'm still not sure that I understand, but here goes ...

You would like to see the model display closed off on the section cutting plane rather than being open into the model? This definitely isn't possible dynamically / in real time as you shift the cutting plane.

You can generate surfaces, including the section faces, for a restricted part of the project - in the 3D model rendering options, specify the rectangular bounding coordinates of the sub-area that you want.

You can't do it in real time, though.

Not the answer you would like, but have I answered the right question??

Hello there Richard, you got what I was wondering ,

so ok, the restriction option can work out for the purposes, I did not try it before because i was looking for a diagonal cutting plane, you think this option, or a two direction planes cutting section  will be available in the future?

Thanks,

Hi, just to mention what I consider a bug on the 2013 version of the software:

When clicking on the 3D Viewer on "Save Image As..." all output formats shows an image that is just black. I´ve tried all of the available formats  (png makes it crash) and there is no way of saving the image directly from the software, so what I must do is saving the screenshot, which is not really what you would desire.

Cordially,.

Hello Ivan.

You should send an email to the GeoModeller Support Team (sup...@geomodeller.com) to report this, and to receive action.

Hello Ivan.

I have no direct connection to the GeoModeller development team - I'm just a user - so I can't really answer your question. I suggest that you pose this question to the GeoModeller support team (sup...@geomodeller.com) and see what they say !
