Hi, I am trying to install osckinnection on mac and I am on step 7 on
the installation guide.

When I do;

cd -----/GeometricMusicStudio/C++/liblo-0.26

then

sudo make install-liblo
I get a message saying;

make: *** No rule to make target `install-liblo'. Stop.

Do you know what I have done wrong? I'm sorry in advance if I'm doing
something stupid here as I am new to terminal etc.

Thank you very much.

Tsubasa

Hi Tsubasa,

I believe I tried to add an extra make target to the liblo file to make it easier for people to install, I can't see it when I look back through the Makefile so I think I have made a mistake in the files I have included.

In which case for now you can try doing it manually, try:

autoconf
./configure
make
sudo make install

run each command seperately in the liblo directory (this is the normal way you would install this software). Since you have limited command line experience then you have done really well to get this far, the driver manufacturers haven't made it particularly easy to install.

Let me know whether you succeed or not.

Kind Regards,
Alistair

Ah, I've found the problem, the directory mentioned in the
Documentation is wrong, if you run it in the C++ directory below then
it should be fine. The Makefile has the following target:

install-liblo:
cd liblo-0.26&&autoconf&&./configure&&make&&make install

Which basically makes it do everything I just told you; but in one
command

Good stuff Tsubasa, as it happens there are no videos of this version of the software up on youtube, would be grand to see some up there if you get something going

Hi there!

I have the same problem: in folder liblo-0.26 when I type 'sudo make
install-liblo' I get

make: *** No rule to make target `install-liblo'. Stop.

If I do it manualy, when I enter './configure' I get

-bash: ./configure: Permission denied

Can't say I m very knowledgeable in terminal. If this has any
connection, I had previously installed OSCeleton and it worked fine. I
have now re-installed the latest unstable versions of OpenNI, NITE and
avin2-SensorKinect.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

There is a problem in the docs where it tells you to sudo make install-liblo in the wrong directory, you'll need to do that in the directory below (off the top of my head I think thats the C++ directory).

That method above should crack the nut with a sledgehammer, the odd thing is that you get permission denied on configure, that would suggest that the script does not have the correct permissions. Can you send over the permissions from the script, just by typing 'ls -l' into the command prompt in that directory e.g:

-rwxr-xr-x@  1 adbc  staff  397044  4 Jun 09:21 configure
-rwxr-xr-x@  1 adbc  staff    2524  7 Mar  2009 configure.ac

You can also try typing 'autoconf' beforehand, autoconf should regenerate the configure script for your machine.

Let me know how you get on

Cheers,
Alistair

I have transferred through Itunes File Sharing several wav files to Sketch Sound 3D but none displays under the samples tab of the app and therefore I cannot access them.

Hi, hope all is well for you, I recently encountered a problem whereby samples > 2Mb were not being loaded properly. The samples tab should show an error at the top saying it failed to load this samples, is this the case? A way to get the sample size down is to use mp3 files instead, you can do the conversion painlessly with tools like audacity. Because of the low memory available on the iPad device it is sometimes not possible to load the larger samples into memory, I am looking for a solution so you can have > 20 Mb files like on the desktop  but I haven't found one yet. Please let me know if that solves the problem. Kind Regards, Alistair

After having had another thought on this, I will be looking at this asap to try to lift that 2Mb limit, we are using a third party library to do this and there may be some things be can do if we do it manually.

This might be a bit more mysterious as none of the samples i have loaded is over 2 mb. As a matter of fact, most hardly weigh 1 mb. I don't see any error message either. I have loaded about 60 short loops or so. Is there any limit in the number of samples one can load?
I am running the app on the iPad2 / iOS 5.0.1, in case it matters.

Hi,

Most of the testing was done on 5.0.1 for iPad 1 & 2 so we should experience the same effects. The software loads the samples into memory on boot and compresses them to try to conserve memory, with ~60Mb of samples you are pushing the memory limits, still you should see some samples loaded and not others. I would drop down to trying to load one sample, then move up to 8 samples, with 8 samples that is the maximum that can be played in any one tune. After that, if we are able to find a number where this happens then I stand a chance of locating the problem, then even if it can't be fixed, I can create a warning message so people know what is going on.

Explicitly, there should be no real limit on the number of samples, apart from the memory available on the device. I will also look at streaming the samples directly from disk so that there should be no memory limits at all.

Kind Regards,
Alistair

Cheers,

SS3D now reckons 99 samples, which is probably what the spare RAM can handle. I made sure that there were no other apps running in he background.
Would be a good idea to load the samples from the device's internal storage, rather than the RAM.

Allow me a couple of suggestions to make this app the one stop shop for experimental electronica enthusiasts like yours truly:
-AudioCopyPaste
-A built in live recorder

Let me tell you that SS3D is one of the best additions to my ever growing collection of iOS synths, alongside TC-11, Curtis, Grain Science and Sunrizer.

Superb work!

Best,
Nuno.

Hi,

Thanks for all your time, I'll do what I can to either get the samples streaming from disk (depends on performance) or sort out the error handling so at least you know what is going on. I've done a bit of a google on the idea of a built in live recorder and I'm pretty sure I can do it, what are you looking from for audio copy & paste, do you want to take a slice of the synth output and make it into a new sample?

I'm really glad you like it, and especially comparing it against Sunrizer which I think is a synth that Beepstreet got so right is grand.

A big problem I have now is that nobody reviews SS3D, would you be able to leave some honest feedback on iTunes?

Kind Regards,
Alistair

Hi Alistair.

I felt so blown away by your app that I decided to write a review a couple of hours after purchasing it. A positive one, of course.
It should appear in the Spanish store when the demigods at Apple publish it.

AudioCopyPaste would let me dump SS3D patterns straight onto a DAW like Meteor Multitrack for further edition and processing.
It is becoming a standard among because it eliminates any need to go through the iTunes headache.

As for the live recorder. the best implementations I have seen so far are offered by TC-11, iKaosslitaor and Curtis.

I'll keep reporting any bugs or questions to this thread should I encounter / have them.

Best,
Nuno.
