According to the secret documentation, adding &lat=<latitude>&lon=<longitude>&radius=<distance in km> should do it.

Actually the documentation isn't a secret.

How to search within a specific dataset:

http://developer.geoiq.com/api/rest-api/#Features-API

How to search for datasets within a specific area (though it only
covers searching by bounding box)

http://developer.geoiq.com/api/rest-api/#Search-API

Thanks,

Kate

So I specify the lat, lon which is my location and then a radius value to the desired results?

Yes that is exactly right. If you want to change the unit of
measurement for the radius you use units. For example units=ft by
default it searches in kilometers.

This query returns any features within 100 KM of the lat/lon

http://geocommons.com/datasets/98696/features.json?lat=39.2&lon=-77.1&radius=100

The below query will return any polygons that full intersect within a
radius of 2 km.

http://geocommons.com/datasets/22146/features.json?lat=38.8&lon=-78.9&radius=2&intersect=full

Hope that helps,

Kate
