Hello colleagues,

The Department of Chemistry and Geosciences of Valdosta State University seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position beginning August 1, 2026.  The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate-level courses, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service to contribute to the department and broader university and surrounding communities. Please see the attachment for more details.

 

The Department of Chemistry and Geosciences offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Geosciences with options in Geography, Geology, Environmental Sustainability, Environmental and Climate Sciences, Geospatial Technologies and Urban Planning, and Natural Hazards Management. The Environmental Geosciences program offers a student-centered learning environment with emphasis on experiential learning.  The department seeks a dynamic and innovative faculty member to join our interdisciplinary team.  For more information on the program, visit https://www.valdosta.edu/chemistry-geosciences/geosciences/.

  • Statement of teaching philosophy and experience that describes how you will incorporate student-centered, active learning, and/or inquiry-based approaches to your teaching
  • Statement of current and future research that describes research goals, projects that will engage undergraduate students, and anticipated equipment needs

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Science/Studies, Resource Management, Geography, Urban Planning, or a closely related field at the time of appointment
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship, appropriate to the applicant's career stage
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work within an interdisciplinary environment

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to teach Environmental Geosciences courses in the other degree options (Geography, Geology, Environmental and Climate Sciences; Geospatial Technologies and Urban Planning, and Environmental Hazards Management) beyond the Environmental Sustainability option.

Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting.

A record of mentoring students. 

Ability to obtain external funding.
