Good evening all,
Given that the VIU Geog Chairship has been handed over to the next lucky colleague, I won't be representing VIU at the articulation meeting this year, so I offer some important input on Glen's topic here instead.
I was invited by Nick Poeschek (BC Ministry of Ed) through a VIU Education colleague/member of the K-12 curriculum working group, to provide renewed input on the Geography curriculum. I spent a day in Nov 2017 in a Richmond hotel conference room with other members of the Socials working group team (mainly History teachers) revising the proposed curriculum, specifically Physical Geography 12. (Actually the focus of the rest of the working group was on Socials 10, given that the Grade 10 new curriculum is due to run as of Sept 2018). I have not heard since then whether any of my direct edits to Physical Geog 12 were approved; it would appear as though the drafts online are dated to 2016 and therefore do not yet contain my suggested edits.
And to give credit where credit is due, they weren't just "my" edits, but I endeavoured to (i) capture the main points from the May 7, 2017 letter to Nick that the articulation group crafted at last year's articulation meeting and (ii) incorporate curriculum feedback from the 2015(?) meeting notes of Prince George Geographers (CNC, UNBC, SD57). A shout of thanks goes out to Glen Thielmann for connecting with me on this ahead of the Nov working group meeting. In January 2018, Michele Patterson (VIU Human Geog colleague) participated in a similar working group manner for Human Geography 12 curriculum feedback.
So, while I understand that the Ministry track record may not be great for response to feedback, they are at least interested in inviting post-secondary experts to the table to provide direct edits and would likely welcome this approach again as the Explorations in Social Studies 11, Physical Geog 12, Human Geog 12, and Urban Studies 12 drafts get closer to finalizing. If, after the May 4th articulation meeting, there is interest from members of the articulation group in becoming this directly involved in the coming months, I can put any suggested names forward.
Best,
Hannah Wilson

Hello, Members of the Geography Articulation Committee,
I am writing to share some information related to this discussion thread.
The Ministry of Education has prepared this summary of the changes to K – 12 as a result of the curriculum transformation: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/education/kindergarten-to-grade-12/support/graduation/graduation-summary-of-changes.pdf
The grade 10 curriculum is being finalized now, and the Ministry expects to make it available on its website by the end of the month.
The Ministry has also committed to summarizing the feedback received from post-secondary, and the adjustments its made to the curriculum as a result of this feedback, once all the revisions are complete.
Finally, the Ministry is arranging to send a representative to your upcoming articulation meeting. I’ve put BCCAT’s Ministry contact in touch with your committee Chair, to discuss the details. I imagine you’ll have time set aside on your agenda to discuss these matters—and you can ask the Ministry representative then about the timelines for the feedback on changes arising from the post-secondary sector’s input, among other things.
Regards,
Meg
