BC Articulation – Joint Meeting Earth Science and Geography
Hello Everyone,
Thank you kindly for your patience regarding meeting information.
The 2022 meeting will be the first of two consecutive joint meetings between Earth Science and Geography. As mentioned in the most recent communication from Katie Burles, this year’s meeting will be online whereas next year’s meeting will be hosted at the College of the Rockies (dates TBD) baring changes to provincial health recommendations.
This is an information packed message with key topics listed below.
1. Tentative Meeting Schedule (see attached)
2. Template for Institutional Report and Deadline information (see attached)
3. Brief discussion on trying to include a hybrid option for those who are geographically situated near each other.
4. Survey about hybrid meeting option and Discussion Topics for the 2022 meeting (link below)
1. Tentative Meeting Schedule
The meeting will be May 30 to June 1. The tentative schedule has been attached. You will notice that there are some placeholders for Discussion Blocks sessions. The Topics for these sessions will be decided based on feedback from the Survey that has been included in this message.
2. Template for Institutional Reports and Deadline
We would like to continue the precedence of using a template for Institutional Reports and have modified the template a bit for this year. This not only will help the Co-Chairs better summarize what to report to the group, this will allow other meeting members to better navigate content when trying to reference other institutions content.
The template to be used has been attached here, thanks for using this template!
As a side note, a couple additional questions that we Co-chairs added in at the end of the report to gather information. Please complete as you see fit.
Institutional Report Submission Deadline is: May 6th ,2022.
3. Hybrid Meeting Option/Meeting hubs
We have heard that there are some members that are keen to travel and engage in a face-to-face meeting setting. Although this year’s meeting will remain online, we would like to offer an informal hybrid meeting option to those persons who are in geographically similar areas.
There are three proposed meeting locations: Vancouver, Victoria, and Kamloops. Those persons near Victoria and on Vancouver Island will be hosted at the University of Victoria (Shannon Fargey and Duncan Johannessen) if they so choose. We also have tentative offers to host from Nancy Van Wagoner at TRU Kamloops and Mark Smith at Langara College. Please indicate on the survey if you are interested in joining one of these hubs and which one.
If you have an idea for another hub location, please be in touch with the meeting organisers.
We would like to be clear that role of ‘host’ at these hubs would only require a room booking and setting up video conferencing equipment to support the online meeting. No additional costs should be incurred. If you are a person travelling to one of these locations, you would be expected to ‘brown bag’ your lunch and other refreshments over the duration of the meeting.
4. Survey
Below is the link to a survey from the organizing committee. It is required. This is where you will confirm your participation, rank topic discussions for the meeting and provide feedback on other important topics. It should take less than 5- minutes.
If you can fill out asap, it would help support meeting planning. Please fill out no later than April 25th.
