Subject: Invitation to participate in the Americas Conference on Solar Radiation Modification: Science, Governance and Implications for the Region to be held from 24 to 25 August 2022 in Kingston, Jamaica 

Dear Madam, Sir, 

I am pleased to invite you to the Americas Conference on Solar Radiation Modification: Science, Governance and Implications for the Region, to be held from 24 to 25 August 2022 in Kingston. 

The organization of the meeting is a collaborative effort by the Carnegie Climate Governance Initiative of the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs (C2G), the Degrees Initiative (formerly the SRM Governance Initiative), the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) and the and the University of the West Indies (UWI), with the support of the United States National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NAS). 

The objectives of the meeting are to introduce to concept of Solar Radiation Modification (SRM), present current and possible science, including research in the Americas, offer views from other regions and describe efforts at establishing governance at the international level. 

Remote interpretation from English to Spanish and Spanish to English will be available. 

The co-organizers hold neutral views on whether SRM should ever be used and how it should be governed and share the belief that a broader and inclusive conversation in the region is needed. 

The IAI Directorate is in a position to finance the participation of one national representative to the meeting from each of the eligible IAI Parties, i.e. those that are middle and low income countries. Financial support includes travel, accommodation and meals and a daily subsistence allowance. 

Please note that once your air ticket is issued, the IAI Directorate will not be in a position to accommodate changes to the itinerary. 

In accordance with past practices, the designation of representatives to attend the meeting must be submitted by the national representative to the IAI and be sent as a Av. Italia 6201, Ed. Los Tilos, Of. 102/103, CP 11500, Montevideo, Uruguay www.iai.int scanned attachment via e-mail to Ms Soledad Noya (sol...@dir.iai.int) at your earliest possible convenience, and preferably no later than 10 July 2022. 

The University of the West Indies is negotiating special hotel rates. Logistical information on hotels and accommodation will be made available in due time. 

Members of the IAI Science Advisory Committee and the Science Policy Advisory Committee are invited to contact the IAI Directorate (sol...@dir.iai.int) for possible travel support.

COVID-19 

Participants note that the co-organizers shall not be held responsible for any health problems or accidents that the participants may have, nor would the co-organizers be responsible for any quarantine costs following a positive COVID-19 test on arrival or during the meeting for those that require it. Participants shall make their own arrangements for life, health and any other forms of insurance as they consider necessary. Participants should carry a health insurance card or certificate for international health coverage and be fully vaccinated. Participants are strongly encouraged to check often entry requirements to Jamaica as they are subject to change.
