If anyone is interested, in my 2014 book, Reason in a Dark Time (p. 206ff) I argued that "geoengineering" is basically an incoherent concept, in part because scientists and engineers from different research traditions and disciplinary backgrounds have forwarded proposals that reflect their own interests.  The language of climate is in general a mess:  for example, 'mitigation' is an expansive concept that among other things includes what is called 'abatement' in other contexts.
