Dear Colleagues,

I urge you to sign this letter for the reasons stated below.

This letter advocates considering "all options on the table" (direct cooling, emissions reduction, and GHG removal) to address our ever worsening climate crisis, with an immediate focus on urgent direct cooling to slow or reversing warming in the polar regions and the Himalayas (the "third pole) - particularly the Arctic that is widely regarded as the first climate tipping point where current data suggests that a "blue ocean" event may occur within this decade; and an explicit recognition that; as the current 1.2 degrees C above pre-industrial is already too much, global warming must urgently be brought down to below 1 degree C.

Best,

Ron

Greetings All,

Please find attached, the Final COP26 Letter produced through the efforts of the HPAC Working Group, the Steering Circle, and General Meeting attendees.  The attached letter is the only letter HPAC is circulating for signature and then transmitting to key COP26 delegates and stakeholders. Many of you previously signed a letter to the G20 advancing a three-pronged approach to reverse climate change.  The COP26 Letter is a more concise letter to COP26 delegates and stakeholders advancing a triad of strategies. It references findings of the IPCC AR#6 and places more emphasis on arresting polar and Himalayan ice and permafrost melting to stave off extreme weather events.

Please read the letter and let me know if you want your signature included. If you signed the G20 letter, I will use your signature block from that letter.  If you did not previously sign the G20 letter or you want to change your signature, I will need your information.  Most of the G20 signatures included name, degree/discipline, organization, and website url.  It is up to you what you want your signature block to include.  You can see in the attached document, examples of signature blocks used by those who have already signed the HPAC COP26 letter  .

We need your response, yes or no, by COB Monday, October 18th so we begin transmitting the letter promptly. COP26 begins Sunday, October 31st!.  If you have any associates who might be interested in signing the letter, you are free to share it wtih them, but I will need them to notify me (csuzann...@gmail.com) directly by COB Monday.

Signatories will receive a WORD version of the letter enabling them, if they choose, to insert a personal closing signature and send the letter to delegates representing their countries and other stakeholders or conduit connections with whom they have relationships.

The Letter will also be formatted as an OPEN LETTER to COP26 and released to media, other climate influencers, and key NGOs and IGOs attending the conference.  Signatories will receive a pdf version of this letter to distribute (widely we hope!).

Thank you for your consideration, participation in this process, and a prompt reply.

Do not hesitate to contact me Mark, Ron B, Herb, or Aria if you have any questions.

PS.  Based on action at today's (Oct. 14) meeting, Healthy Planet Action Coalition (HPAC) is now our official name.

Best wishes to all,

Suzanne
