Thankfully, a team at MIT thinks they have found the answer. They’re looking to put giant bubbles in space to blot out the sun. But how does this stop climate change? Are “Space Bubbles” really a one-stop climate solution? And is this mad idea even feasible?" |

It's definitely the safest from a don't mess with the atmosphere standpoint, assuming a minimal number of launches are needed and the resupply is accomplished from lunar materials.
Lagrange point orbits need active stabilization, so capability to turn it off could easily be built in if needed to compensate for a very large volcanic event induced climate cooling or other reasons.
However orbital stability and durability may be a challenge.

Also per this document, I think what got us into this mess is "hunter-gatherer" industrial civilization, and I would tend to focus more on the need for
more energy to lift up developing countries, and economic equity and transfers of funding and technology from rich to poor as necessary for a rapid and at scale long run solution.
In the short-term (as I think all on this list agree) we need to cool!

Re: "Space Bubbles". It's an interesting idea but how would solar wind and gravity keep 1.27 trillion bubbles in a Lagrange Orbit? Wouldn't the bubbles be prone to unpredictable (solar wind) blowing and not be very well held down by gravitational forces due their small mass? (Non-expert knee-jerk reaction.).

Typically, such proposals have some sort of "active" element in order to maintain stability, since SEL1 is only a meta-region of quasi-stability. A couple of the Lagrange points have true stability, but they would not be in a location optimal to function as a geoengineering proposal.
Alternatively, that lack of true stability is pointed to as a reason why, if space-based methods did not work for whatever reason and/or had unintended effects, they could simply be allowed to float off into outer space.
