A quick search suggests that the 2016 survey data from the Cooperative Congressional Election Study (CCES) described  in "Solar geoengineering and the chemtrails conspiracy on social media" Tingley & Wagner 2017 is the most recent publicly available source on the prevalence of chemtrail belief. Can this really be true?

Hi, Oliver.  No, I've seen more recent treatments, but not in the scientific press.

FYI, the National Academy released its report on *con*trails.  (Yes, I know, not the same thing at all.)  Friend of mine worked on it.  See:  https://www.nationalacademies.org/news/2025/05/coordinated-approach-to-contrails-research-needed-to-ensure-competitiveness-of-u-s-aviation-industry-says-new-report

PS. The text string "chemtrails" does not appear once in it.

PPS. Written from a US state that banned chemtrails, i.e., they passed a law against something which does not exist.  Passed both lower and upper house, was signed by the governor last year.  That's what we're up against.

YAPS.  Oliver, this item came out on Gizmodo disparaging that nut job from Hyannis: https://gizmodo.com/rfk-jr-goes-full-tinfoil-pledges-to-stop-chemtrails-in-latest-dr-phil-interview-2000596357
