Aerosol–cloud interactions (ACI) influence clouds from local precipitation processes to the global energy balance. They underpin long-standing efforts in cloud seeding, represent a major uncertainty in historical anthropogenic radiative forcing, and are central to proposed climate-intervention strategies, including marine cloud brightening (MCB), mixed-phase cloud thinning (MCT), and cirrus cloud thinning (CCT). Progress in all these areas depends on a common challenge: constraining how clouds respond to aerosol perturbations across meteorological regimes, spatial scales, and background aerosol concentrations.This session invites contributions that advance understanding through satellite, field, and modelling studies on the efficacy of aerosol-driven cloud modifications. Topics include observational (e.g., SNOWIE, CAARE) and modelling studies of deliberate cloud seeding, inadvertent and natural analogues (e.g., ship tracks, contrails, and dust storms), aerosol controls on cloud phase and radiative effects, and regional and global climate responses to aerosol perturbations. The session aims to connect researchers working on operational cloud seeding, aerosol–cloud–climate interactions, and cloud-based climate-intervention approaches to accelerate progress toward a robust understanding of aerosol-mediated cloud modifications across scales.
