Dear All,
We welcome your contributions to our session at the Fall AGU Meeting
in San Francisco, Dec. 11-15, 2023
GC100 -
Solar Radiation Modification for Climate Intervention
https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm23/prelim.cgi/Session/186160
Persistent CO
2 emission growth casts doubt over the
chance of stabilizing Earth's temperature over the next decades
through emission cuts alone. Solar radiation modification (SRM) is a
suggested set of climate intervention schemes (also called
geoengineering) to temporarily modify the Earth's radiation budget
in order to reduce the near-term effects of climate change, working
alongside decarbonization. Suggested SRM approaches include
stratospheric aerosol injection, marine cloud brightening, and
surface albedo modification. Climate intervention governance must be
grounded in a solid basis of natural science and engineering
research. We welcome contributions focusing on the advancements in
natural science behind climate engineering, including climate
modeling studies, ecological and agricultural impacts, engineering
investigations, experimental results, and analog observations. We
also encourage interdisciplinary studies that connect the climatic
and ecological impacts with the economic, social, political, or
ethical implications, and abstracts from underrepresented
communities or those who may be disproportionately affected by
climate change.
