Dear colleagues,

We invite you to submit an abstract to our AGU 2026 session, NH045: Past Eruptions, Future Risk: Connecting Paleo Records to Hazard Assessment. The abstract deadline is Wednesday, 5 August 2026.

This session focuses on the climatic, environmental, and societal impacts of past volcanic eruptions and how they inform assessments of future volcanic hazards. We welcome contributions using proxy-based reconstructions of Holocene and Quaternary eruptions and their climate responses, as well as interdisciplinary work drawing on historical, archaeological, and documentary evidence to assess how past societies experienced and responded to volcanic eruptions and their impacts. We are particularly interested in work that synthesizes climate model simulations and scenario exercises with paleo records to better constrain the potential effects of future eruptions under a warming climate. This includes cascading risks on modern infrastructure, agriculture, and global supply chains. We strongly encourage submissions that connect these insights to hazard assessment, risk management, and policy.

Submit here: https://agu.confex.com/agu/agu26/prelim.cgi/Session/282595

Please forward to colleagues and students who may be interested.

Best Regards,
Lili Xia, Ally Peccia & Julie Edwards
