Dear Colleagues,

The United Nations Ocean Conference will take place from 27 June to 1 July 2022 in Lisbon, aiming to propel science-based innovative solutions for a sustainably managed ocean by addressing a range of threats to the ocean including climate change.

On this occasion, the Joint Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environmental Protection (GESAMP) and the Carnegie Climate Governance Initiative (C2G) will co-organize a virtual side event on “Marine Cloud Brightening - a governance dilemma”. The event will feature a panel of global speakers with diverse expertise on the ocean, climate change, environmental and ocean law, and governance, to engage in discussions on the governance of Marine Cloud Brightening, one type of solar radiation modification, which may have the potential to protect the marine environment by reducing climate hazards, but it could create novel risks, ethical and governance challenges – particularly if scaled up in a global climate intervention. Following a moderated panel discussion, there will be a question and answer session with the audience.

We invite you to join us for what promises to be a thought-provoking, insightful and interactive event on Friday 1 July at 11:00-12:15 WEST (10:00-11:15 UTC)Register Now
