Hi everybody!

First of all, thanks everybody for the amazing work done by this mailing-list users.

I would like to know if there's any plan to implement SFCGAL support within GeoDjango.

I'm new to geo stuff but I would be more than happy to help supporting this feature with research, code development and documentation.

Bests regards,

Hi,

There is no such plan currently. Maybe you could first tell us what this
would bring in Django with concrete examples.
Then if possible and if you are interested, begin by implementing some
basic support through an external package. This is a great way to
estimate the interest of the whole community in a new functionality.

Regards,

Claude

Hi,

Hi!

Thanks for your kind answer. I'm sorry for my poor English. I'm sure we will understand each other in some way.
There is no such plan currently. Maybe you could first tell us what this
would bring in Django with concrete examples.

Well, I don't know too closely Django community, so I really don't know how it would improve or which benefits this feature would bring.

I'm a happy user of Django framework and I'm now working on a side-project on weekends about 3d stuff with Postgres and wanted a simple visualisation tool. As I'm familiar with Django and I knew you are supporting GIS stuff, well it was a direct consequence after evaluating 3d gis visualisation tools, that maybe I could give it a try developing a web-based tool with Django and GeoDjango cool stuff. This would bring me a tiny improvement in the project I'm researching that's more oriented about interacting with 3d volumes and topologies.

Then if possible and if you are interested, begin by implementing some
basic support through an external package.

I would definitely follow your advise and start next week-end taking a look at already existing implementations in Django of PostGIS backends to have some reference and guidelines. If you can point me at some commits or files I would be more than happy to "gitlog" them . If not I can just explore the repo by myself.

This is a great way to
estimate the interest of the whole community in a new functionality.

I don't know if this could be of interest of anyone, it's maybe something too specific and sometime tedious to follow. But I appreciate all kind of constructive feedback from you and the community.

Regards,

Kind regards,
Claude
