Greetings,
I'm not sure if anyone but me is seeing this, but I keep seeing "pinned" conversations from over 5 years ago showing up on my conversations screen.  I didn't ask for this and see no way to remove them from the screen.  The unpin icon says only the moderator can do this. Well, consider this a request to do so.
thx Dx G

Ashok,
Thanks for chiming in.  If its not on everybody's screen, it could be something that changed on mine, or even something I inadvertently did that I did not even realize.  Bottom line is, when I go to unpin them, I am told that only the moderator can do that.  Likely there are a few things to learn here that are new to me...
thx Dx G

Taff,
Thanks for looking into it, but I remain a bit confused.  There used to be none on my screen.  I saw three, don't know how they got there, and tried to delete them, and could not.  Is 3 important?  I'd prefer to have zero and pin what I choose to, unless I'm missing something here.
thx

someone, who originally registered this group has the ownership/administrator rights to maintain administrative tasks with the conversations.
he can also delegate such elevated rights to others, to help handling the plentiful of messages.

To All,

I had trouble unpinning topics, but, after several days, I was finally able to properly access the pin/unpin settings.
I reduced the pinned messages to three important discussions.
Keep in mind that new members will likely appreciate the links that I kept pinned.
Yes, you've seen them before. Have pity on new members seeking basic geodesic information.
Our group, as far as I can tell, is unique on the interweb. We're a valuable resource to both old and new members.
Thank you for all your continued contributions and support.

Dear Taff
I am not sure if it is possible, but if it is, can we not put unipped messages into two categories i.e. Recent pinned messages which would be less than year old and archived pinned messages which are over 1year old.

Taff,
I appreciate your looking into this.  Here is what I would suggest.

Provide a single link to selected "important" discussions, and let people (new or old) have the option to go there or not.  That could lead to a sort, or groupings, such as Ashok suggests, like by age, etc.  Members of the group could nominate discussions they feel are "important" to you for appearance there, and you have the option to add them or not.  This keeps it off the main screen and IMHO, adds access and capability that the current system does not provide, and better serves the people you are trying to help.
Over the last few years, several people (our ol' timers) have noticed a discussion emerging about a topics that were covered earlier, and posted a link to that discussion, so links like that could be pinned and posted there.  That way, we don't get redundancy, and the discussion on that topic can proceed, rather than be entirely rehashed.   Sometimes something gets so old, people think its new.
In addition, the system has a search box which works pretty well.  So another thing you could have on that link, in addition to pinned conversations, is a list of key words that newbies, or anyone else, could enter in the search bring up various subjects.  A few examples would be "homeless", "dome calculators", "storms resistance", "bamboo" or even "universal strut connector"  (my schtik).  This could be attractive to some new visitors who might discover something of intense interest they never thought to ask about.
I realize there may be implementation issues with these ideas, and they might not even be new.  So my suggestions here are meant to be what we might do, rather than how to do that, which I leave to others who know more.

- Dx G
