Here's a short text about Duncan Stuart, who is credited with developoing the method 3 triangle subdivision for class II geodesic domes. Stuart, who died in 2001, was an artist, mathematican and teacher, and an associate of Buckminster Fuller and T.C. Howard. There are two nice quotes from Stuart in the article, one about how deep learning depends on making errors.

TC Howard's mentor, teacher and dear friend.  NCSU libraries have been given some of Synergetics, Inc project photos (not on line yet). 
Thanks Gerry for finding this article on Duncan.  They also have a bio of James Fitzgibbon -executive manager of Fuller Research, Skybreak Carolina Corp., Geodesics, Inc and Synergetics, Inc and great design professor.
