Hi, I am new to this group. I have a number of published articles that may be of interest to the group that are available through ResearchGate. You may find some useful ideas contained within them. Cheers

1) Geodesic Domes (1985)

Welcome, Chris,

I've read a couple of your papers, in the past, and am grateful for the links to more.

Really, dear members, why wouldn't everyone want these in their research library? There's information of interest to both, novice and computational "expert." (In that regard, I've made Chris' post a "sticky" at the top of the group discussion index.)

Thank you, Chris, for your R&D contributions to the geodesic-tessellation community, at large.

A couple of additional papers are now available:

This provides all the math behind the 1980 edition of the Dymaxion map.
This is a complete solution for the Equal Edge Conjecture originally proposed by Joe Clinton, and also covers Nexorades.

Chris

The link, Dimpled SIngle Layer Geodesic Shells, reminded me that the Titleist Velocity is the farthest traveling golf ball. The manufacturer attributes part of that success to the geodesic dimple pattern. Look closely and you will see that the smallest dimples are surrounded by five larger ones ( https://www.amazon.com/Titleist-Velocity-Golf-Balls-Grade/dp/B00FHEWSFO/ref=sr_1_28?crid=YUJ4IVYGTUK9&dchild=1&keywords=titleist+velocity+2020&qid=1583702756&sprefix=titleist+velocity%2Caps%2C177&sr=8-28  ).

Still another reason to love geodesics! Paul sends...

The dimpling of golf balls is a direct result of achieving better aerodynamics compared to a smooth surface.  Of course the icosahedral pattern is efficient but the patterns differ. There is a whole chapter (7) on golf ball geometry in 'Divided Spheres'  by Ed Popko.

Cheers,

Chris
