This is the crown jewel of my geocaching career.  This point is in Delaware despite being “Near” Sharptown, Maryland.  By getting this DP, I have found a DP in every state east of the Mississippi River and every state that borders on the Mississippi River. I have the whole eastern half of the United States covered.

Dashpoint: GDFK-CYLI

Coordinates: 38.529, -75.6829

Near: Sharptown, Maryland

Location: Sussex County, DE, about 793 miles E of home

Date/time: 9 Sep 2019 10:15 AM

Temperature: 82 F / 27.8 C

Closest approach: 101 ft / 31 meters

Point/Team points: 3

I drove up Shockley Road, confident that this would be an easy drive-by.  When I got to the last turn and looked down the road, 500+ feet (165 m) from the DP, I saw a sandy gravel road with a house on the right and a nice corn field on the left.  I did not expect a sandy/gravel road but more importantly I saw someone on a riding lawn mower, happily work along the edges of the nearest house.  I didn’t want to have the explain myself so I continued on, turned around and went past again.  He was still there, working away.  I carried on straight again, slowly, turned into a driveway and stopped for a bit, hoping that I could outlast him.  When I returned, he was working along the edge of Shockley Road.  I drove past him and I decided that it was time to grab this DP.  Down Lanes End Road I went, got within the scoring circle, and stopped to make some notes.  The DP is almost in the road, near what appears to be a storage building for farm equipment.  The corn field which looks like it is getting close to being ready for harvest.  The house was directly head of me, a newish, gray one story with an attached two car garage.  As I was leaving, I realized that I could get a lot closer so I continued down this lane and turned around much closer to the DP.  Success!
