As most of you know, the server hosting GPSgames.org was attacked by hackers, which left it in a corrupted state. I believe all the data was preserved, but the game engine couldn't get to it. So, I've taken the drastic step of migrating GPSgames.org to a new server. I now have enough restored to announce partial service for anyone missing it enough to care.

Why care? Good question If you remember, I announced the end of the games on GPSgames.org at the beginning of June. So, technically, there aren't any games to play at GPSgames.org, so why bother.

Well, someone thought it would be nice to keep the site around as an archive, so people could revisit trips to all these random places in the world. Also if you remember, not all the games were completely played out yet. Geodashing's last game was extended from a deadline of June 30 to August 31.  Given that we're almost there, I'm extending the deadline again to September 30. So if there were any last dashpoints that you visited but were unable to enter because of the database crash, the database might, just might, be up and open to any last minute reports.

Geovexilla is also back in service. Similar deal. If there were any flags you visited but didn't report AND those flags haven't expired and disappeared from the database, you still have a chance to report them. And if there are any flags still in the wild, you can still visit them and report them. There are a few thousand flags left. Who will be the very last player to find one and capture it?

None of the other games have been restored (yet). Let's see how the two most popular games go before I restore anything else. As always, if you find something doesn't work, let me know by private email. Let's not flood the mailing list with technical issues with the website, please.

Thanks for your efforts getting this back up!  And for the extension. When I finally had a weekend to dash, I didn’t know the point…. Not that it mattered as the main purpose of my last dashpoint visit will be to visit Dash Point. 😊

In the meantime I’m enjoying my new Xbox with Flight Simulator on it.  You can fly to lat/lon coordinates and I think I might toss in a few old dashpoints to revisit them virtually from the air.

Thanks for all of your efforts, Scout.

I'll see if I can get a couple more dashpoints before the end of September.
