I am an Aperture user and I am tired of managing my old iphoto library seperately. In order to use the new combined aperture/iphoto abilities i need a newer version of iphoto. Apple says that the new iphoto is free, however my iphoto (version 8.1.2) did not update. How do i update iphoto so that i can use the library with Aperture?
Has anyone found a solution? I can't seem to find a definite answer to this question. I have owned iMovie, iPhoto, etc. since I first bought the computer, but it is the '09 version. Going to update it says I need to pay to get any new software. If I check for updates in the application itself it says "iLife '11 is now available..." and asks me to click for more information, but the page no longer exists. Can I update from iLife '09 to iLife'11 for free or do I need to pay for it? I have mavericks as well. Thanks
The only version of the iLife 11 apps available from the App Store are iPhoto 9.5, iMovie 10 and Garageband 10. In order to get those for free one must have purchased (or had preinstalled) the versions that came with the iLife 11 disk.
I keep getting messages that there are new osx downloads available but have been worried about downloading as wondering if they'd be compatible with my system etc. I have had the old iPhoto on my system (8.1.2 i think) since new.
A long time ago I was sent an ilife dvd from Apple to update the iPhoto, but in the process of moving twice it got misplaced...finally yesterday i found it.. I did a back up and then proceeded to follow the instructions you gave above regarding updating all the versions of iPhoto to get to 9.4.3 After every download i looked at the iPhoto in the dock and it had the circle with diagonal line through it. I had hoped once it got to the 9.4.3 that it would disappear and then work ok. However it is still there, it says i need to do a software update, but when i do it takes me to the App store where I cannot find the latest version which was 9.5.1 i think. It does show there was an incompatible update which was 9.6.1!
Footnote...silly me just took a look in my downloads folder and realised I had not actually installed the various updates. So i went to do the first one but it said I needed 9.1.0 first, so thats what I am downloading at this moment...Once I have done that I will install all the various versions and then see what happens, but i fear from what Ive read on other threads, the 9.4.3 will still need to be updated or something, therefore any assistance any of you experts can give would be so much appreciated. TIA
My question is in order to be able to get to the latest osx do i need to do something to iPhoto first e.g. somehow get the 9.5.1 and beyond or can i simply upgrade the osx and the photo library will sort itself out and be compatible?
You can upgrade directly to El Capitan with that iMac model. Yosemite is not longer offered by Apple. Just go to the App Store to download and install. As always, be sure to make a backup of your hard drive before doing so.
Once you get El Capitan installed you should be able to go to the App Store and install iPhoto 9.6.1. However, before going to the App Store move the iPhoto 9.4.3 app to the Trash bin (don't delete yet) so Spotlight won't see it.
I have upgraded as suggested to El Capitan and before that had updated all the iPhotos up to and including 9.4.3 I placed the iPhoto app into the trash... I went to the app store to try and find 9.6.1 but it is not there...I put iPhoto back into the applications folder and it had a circle with a line through it. I double clicked and it said to update but when i did it stated it wasn't available in the australian store...I went into the update section of the app store top check for updates and it showed that there was an update for it but when trying to download it says something along the lines that it was purchased by a different user or refunded or cancelled...im not sure whats going on ...any suggestions...
am on phone to support now and they say you can no longer get 9.6.1 in the app store or anywhere and consequently my iPhoto is defunct...So i now have library of 9752 photos with dates all over the place.....All i can do is access the iPhoto library in Photos...How can i change the dates as i have pics taken in 2009 showing as being 2045!!
Apple's iLife '11 Installer has the same March 23, 2012 certificate expiration problem as the updates downloaded for local SUS. Our iLife '11 policy began failing on March 23. We now see that the Apple Software Installer Update 1.0 released on March 19 (zzz041-4801) must be installed to enable the iLife '11 Installer. The update is for all 10.6.8 users.
I presume better practice would be to go with Apple App Store applications (Garage Band, iMovie and iPhoto) and package/deploy those instead? I mean you can't even buy iLife '11 from Apple anymore (just the 3 separate apps).
I used the python script that gives you a repackaged flat file installer. So far that has worked well for us. I left all of the default apps in there as some of our users treat their Macs like their own and make movies, etc... on them.
I guess my main concern now is whether we really need to be packaging the suite from the disc, since it's no longer sold...or if we should be following the Apple App Store distribution best practices for the 3 applications that constitute the iLife suite?
for what it's worth, i setup a smart group of machines that should have shipped with ilife '11 or were at least released after a specific date and only allow self service installs for those hosts. anyone else will need to purchase the apps another way.
Could someone please take me by the hand and explain me exactly how to use this python script? I spent so many days looking up for a tutorial and the only one I've found leads me to a "SyntaxError"... This is what I was trying to do:
