Hi GeoCraftr's, I would like to notify you that EclipseCon is officially accepting submissions:

http://www.eclipsecon.org/2009/

I would love to see talks submitted by the GeoCraft team detailing their experience using Eclipse RCP (i.e., a case study) or about the project itself. This is also a potential opportunity to attract people to the GeoCraft effort. In the end, EclipseCon is really THE conference when it comes to things Eclipse-related. It's the biggest meeting of Eclipse committers and adopters during the year.

If you have any questions, feel free to let me know. I can help you with the submission process as I'm on the EclipseCon Program Committee.

Thanks!

Hi Chris,

I think that one interesting topic for a short talk could be something like "Integrating the jME canvas into SWT". There are a lot of issues and interesting things that we (well, mostly Josh) had to deal with. Both Eclipse RCP and jME are getting more users every day, so I'm sure there are others interested in this. Josh, what do you think?

Thanks,

Dan

I agree it could be an interesting topic. People always love seeing
Java do nice 3D stuff. Just talking about the jME part got my
colleague and I a JavaOne rockstar award last JavaOne.

There's about 300 submissions so far for EclipseCon and only 2 weeks left to submit something!

I would love to see something on jME or Ardor3D. I chair the UI track at EclipseCon and would definitely try to accept something around this area.

Chris,

I would love to give a paper at EclipseCon but the deadline is fast
approaching.

I agree that jME integration would make a fantastic talk.

Chris (and everyone else) do you see anything in what we have done
that you think would make a compelling talk?

I fear that a generic 'we moved to rcp and it worked fine for us'
would be boring and preaching to the converted.

There is possibly something interesting about leveraging OSGi in a
proprietary / open source project that might make the basis of a talk?

Regards

Duncan

Chris,

I would like to write something about the design of geocraft algorithm
API, which is built on top of eclipse and targeted to be used by non-
professional programmers (i.e. geophysicists). One of the goal for
geocraft framework is building a framework for geophysicist
programmers. I think that Java community and eclipse community seem
always develop the systems for professional programmers. However,
there are a large number of Java programmers who are not professional
programmers. The system we develop should also be good for this group
of programmers. It is the basic idea for a short talk.

I have looked into EclipseCon's website. It is not clear to me what I
should submit: a normal abstract, a long abstract, a outline, or a
fully written paper. Please let me know what I should submit by Nov
24.

At EclipseCon, you have the option of this:

10 min short talk
30 min short talk
1 hour long talk
4 hour tutorial

(there are also posters and BOF sessions but submissions for those open up later)

For your topic, I think it makes sense as a 30 min or 1 hour long talk.

The UI Category is a good place too.

Hi Chris,

I have submitted the paper in UI category for a 30 min talk. Actually,
there are three submissions from me, submission #421, #528, and #529.
I made mistake in submission #421 by clicking on "become assistant"
link. So, I cannot edit that submission anymore. I have written a
comment in that submission to tell them that the submission should be
replaced by submission #529. If you can delete submission #421, please
delete it. As for #528, I guess that I clicked the submission button
twice while I was waiting for the response of the submission page.

By the way, Heather, our technical writer, is not available today. She
will be in tomorrow and she will proofread and edit the paper on
Tuesday or Wednesday. So, we are going to have a better version to
submit by Thanksgiving day.

Happy Thanksgiving day!

Yonghe
