Thanks Sara,
I don't understand why the file in GBIF is stored as a text file. I can see the collections in the map there...

Anyway, I went ahead and copied lat/long directly into GeoCAT and that works. Luckly I only had 1 collection to import.

i checked the file and it looks like the fields lat and long are stored as
text instead of number
if you change that then it works
i tryed :)
