For a week or so, I am facing problem in importing GBIF data into GeoCAT. It happened for Ceropegia panchganiensis, and Ceropegia anantii. The data getting imported includes multiple species, some of them are synonyms of the two searched, but some quite unrelated. I checked with GBIF as well. Perhaps its something to do with updating of about links between GBIF-GeoCAT...
Can someone help?
With regards
Aparna

Dear madam

Good morning.

Gbif data may need correction to ensure data standards. Your experience is more in this field.
Possibly there may be dome errors within the csv file. Or the geocat software can be reinstalled with the recent version.

Ensuring right lat long co ordinates is essential and each record has to be checked.
Some values may be zero, or empty, with full stop, comma ir sone space. Single point also can cause issues.

I think geocat does not accept more than 1000 records.

Or if the  data is not up to the species level also it can create problem.

Hope these points will be of use to you.

Warm regards

Dear Sathya,
Thanks for this suggestion.
I searched for the same species on GBIF and as import of GBIF on GeoCAT. GBIF is correct. While GeoCAT is giving too many points of diverse species and even making a mistake in mapping an observation that's originally from iNat. It is my observation from coastal Maharashtra, which in GeoCAT is being shown somewhere near Indonesia. This has never happened before. I have been using GeoCAT for the past 5 years with no problem ever. Attached screenshots below.

Madam is the latlong differing in minor values. Seems to be a rare experience.

Hi Aparna,

Sorry to see you are having problems with GeoCAT. The tool should reflect the taxonomy of GBIF, so if you search Ceropegia anantii the GBIF backbone suggests that is a synonym of Ceropegia attenuata Hook., therefore GeoCAT will pull down all the occurrences linked under C. attenuata.

For more precise control you can make the download from GBIF and curate the table by adding or removing the occurrences and then upload that to GeoCAT as an input point file so you can make the EOO and AOO calculations.

Dear Steve,
Thank you so much for this. GBIF seems to be following a non-POWO source for this one.
I will check with GBIF Asia node and see if it can be corrected.
With best regards.
