Hi all
I am working for an organization who uses trackers for herd dogs (Herdenschutzhund) and we would like to publish the location of the animals on a publicly accessible map. This service is useful for hikers who want to avoid the animals on their route. We have our own proprietary map service but this is only accessible with a login.

The thing is that our data is updated in near real-time. Data is transmitted every 15-30minutes using LoRa-Radio Signal. We would like to publish this data on a map on a dedicated website using an iFrame with map.geo.admin.ch and an own layer of Data. The data could be hosted on our own server.

I am not familiar with Geolocation-Filestructures like WMS, WMTS, KML or GeoJSON. We want to keep it simple and just publish the last location of the animal.

My questions in general are:
- What is the best filestructure to publish this (near-)Realtime-Data
- is it possible to host this file on our server
- is it useful to distribute the data to catalogues like geocat.ch or others
- any other tips or tricks are appreciated

Best regards
Mathias

Hi Mathias

Interesting Project

They worked with
- an iframe
and kml file provided by them which was updated every  minute or so

they were using the non documented parameter updateDelay to enforce an update of the external KML
