Swisstopo offers various scripts for transformation between WGS84-LV03 (see here). It would be great to have an updated version including the new reference system, LV95. I'm particularly interested in the R-Scripts. Is an update planned on these files?

Hello

The LV03 to LV95 transformation is not linear and we cannot so easily change these scripts for LV95 without adding a new approximation.

These scripts have an accuracy of about 1 meter.
If your data has an accuracy > 1 meter, you can to the LV03 to LV95 transformation by adding 2000000.0 meters to east (y) coordinate and adding 1000000.0 meters to north (x) coordinate.
You can make these changes at the end of "WGS.to.CH.y" and "WGS.to.CH.x" and "update" the existing script to LV95.

If you need to be "inside the meter", the script is ok for LV03 but may not be used/changed for LV95.

For high accuracy, I would recommend to use one of these solutions:

I hope this helps

Hi everyone,

Swisstopo used to make these scripts WGS84<->LV03 available under their website
http://www.swisstopo.admin.ch/internet/swisstopo/en/home/products/software/products/skripts.html
with a MIT licence, which allows copy, modification and redistribution.

I wonder why swisstopo removed the access to those scripts. I understand that REST services are more accurate and that swisstopo made great efforts for integrated solutions for GIS professionals (Rest Reframe API m2m, GeoSuite, Reframe, Transint, etc.).

The scripts would still be useful for some applications that:
- don't require precision, where "1 meter accuracy is enough" (eg. navigation, non-official information, approximation)
- need to be simple, run lightweight (eg. mobile, embedded, non-GIS applications)
- can't install X libraries or dependencies (eg. non-supported environnements by Geosuite)
- cannot rely on a stable internet connection (eg. offline, mobile applications)

An example of such usage may be found here

For your information, the scripts are available on my personal github space, with clear reference to swisstopo contributions and sources
https://github.com/ValentinMinder/Swisstopo-WGS84-LV03
Given the MIT licence, it should be no problem, but I found it honest to write it here, too.
