Today more than ever, conservation practitioners find themselves leading in increasingly complex political and social situations. In this webinar Kinship Faculty member and 2007 Kinship Fellow Christine Ageton will explore some of the emerging leadership models that are addressing this need and use a real life case study faced by 2007 Fellow Gaya Sriskanthan to see how leadership theory is applied in real time.
Speakers:
Christine Ageton is Senior Director of the Fellowship and Alumni Program at BALLE (the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies) where she oversees the Local Economy Fellowship program. Christine also designs and runs leadership programs for the Smith Conservation Research Fellowship Program and the Conservation Leadership Programme (CI, WCS, FFI). Christine has been on the Kinship Conservation Fellows faculty since 2008. She is an experienced project development strategist, international development specialist, facilitator, and instructor. She has designed and
implemented programs in economic development (Clinton Foundation-Peru), drinking water protection (New Mexico Rural Water Association), and conservation planning (IDB, World Bank –Belize, Honduras and Guatemala). Christine received her bachelor's degree from Skidmore College and holds two master's degrees from the University of New Mexico, in Community and Regional Planning and Latin American Studies. Christine has deep understanding and passion for leadership development among social change agents and conservation innovators.
Gaya Sriskanthan currently works for the UN-REDD Programme: the United Nations collaborative programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD) in developing countries. REDD aims to make forests more valuable standing than they would be cut down, by creating a financial value for the carbon stored in trees. Gaya works specifically on the inclusion of forest-dependent indigenous peoples and communities that may be affected by REDD. Gaya has 10 years of experience working in the conservation and development sector with a focus on natural resource dependent
communities, and has worked for the UK Department of International Development, WWF and IUCN.
