Dear BBOP Community of Practice members,

The International Association of Impact Assessors (IAIA) Biodiversity and Ecology Section held a special symposium on 7-8 February on "Biodiversity & Ecosystem Services in Impact Assessment" ( http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001le2tz8Auxy0t8fG_XzjmnXoRw1wmsLtQcPmOcV_1BL9zcveVa7w73jlN6GT4XYeG9JA6mwU_EDs_OIIERqz0-cQvWEZDN1WvCc-l804OpyYxhZuRygyzVBgorrMbUNpuwiz3c8zfqyrHJzZGO_QSew==).  This well attended event brought together 250 impact assessment practitioners, policy makers responsible for shaping impact assessment frameworks and scientists committed to finding practical ways forward.  Participants discussed a wide range of challenges, including approaches to assessing biodiversity values; identifying dependence on-and impacts to-ecosystem services; designing better mitigation strategies following the mitigation hierarchy; and effectively monitor changes in biodiversity and ecosystem services over time.

Organizers and attendees of the symposium, including Courtney Lowrance (Environmental and Social Risk Management, Citi); Elizabeth Clarke (Business and Biodiversity Programme Manager, Zoological Society of London); and Ray Victurine (Director of Conservation Finance Program, Wildlife Conservation Society) will provide an overview and relevant outcomes from the Special Symposium during this one hour webinar.

Best,
